Brazil

Brazil is the most biodiverse country on Earth in terms of number of animal species recorded. Brazil is home to more than 130,000 known species, including the highest number of mammals, freshwater fish, and amphibians. Brazil has around 1,900 bird species, 700 mammal species, 1,000+ amphibian species, and 800+ reptile species. 1

Brazil’s vast ecosystems – including the Amazon Rainforest, Pantanal wetlands, and Atlantic Forest – support an unparalleled diversity of wildlife. However, this biodiversity faces increasing threats from deforestation, climate change, and habitat destruction.

Safeguarding biodiversity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), which call for the conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems. Impact investors can play a role through sustainable agriculture, reforestation projects, and conservation-focused investments.
