What led you to work in sustainable finance?
At university, I studied Business Management, which included core modules in finance and accounting along with a range of electives. I chose to focus on sustainability and the alignment of business growth strategy with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. I’ve always believed that businesses should integrate environmental and social responsibility into their growth, ensuring their success doesn’t come at the expense of people or the planet. For me, this connection is obvious, and I knew I wanted to work for a company that embraced the same philosophy. That’s how I found Tribe.
Why Tribe?
Tribe resonated with me because it’s the UK’s first dedicated impact wealth manager. I wanted to join an organisation that approaches wealth differently and aligns with my values around contributing positively to the world. I’m incredibly proud to work for a company that takes this responsibility seriously, and I’m always excited to tell people I’m part of such a purposeful and forward-thinking business.
What did you want to be growing up?
When I was in primary school, I took ballet classes several times a week and loved the idea of being a ballerina. To this day, my grandpa still calls me ‘Sophie the dancing queen’ because I was constantly dancing around the place. Although I’ve long since stopped ballet, so a pilates or barre class is as close as I now come!
What’s your earliest memory?
One of my earliest memories is from when I was about five or six. Equipped with a pink karaoke machine in my bedroom and a Hannah Montana CD, I would insist my younger brother sit and watch while I performed.
If you had to pick, which of the 17 SDGs means the most to you and why?
For me, SDG 4, Quality Education, is one of the most important. I believe education underpins finding solutions to global challenges and forms the foundation for progress. Maintaining a continual commitment to learning is important, particularly as emerging challenges demand increasingly innovative and adaptive solutions.
If you weren’t a wealth analyst at Tribe, what would you be?
I’d love to be doing something like event planning, which is still very much people-oriented and offers plenty of opportunities to travel and try nice restaurants (and cocktails). Either that or a personal shopper, which I pretty much already offer for my colleagues in frequently suggesting baby presents and birthday presents for everyone’s mum!
What have you read, listened to, or watched recently that you’ve enjoyed?
I recently went to a talk by Dr David R. Hamilton on the science of kindness and the power of implementing your mind-body connection, which I found deeply fascinating and uplifting. His book is certainly next on my list.
I’m someone who always prefers to read the book before watching the film, so ahead of the new adaptation coming out, I’m currently reading The Housemaid. It’s full of twists I didn’t see coming, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping, easy read.
Give us an exclusive, what’s something no one knows about you?
I don’t think my colleagues know that I was captain of my school netball team. Well, co-captain alongside one of my best friends. It meant we had so much fun leading training sessions and playing matches together all year!
